Elio Fox Wins $440,000 in SHRP Showdown $50K Super High Roller

The 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $50,000 Super High Roller attracted 20 entries to reach the $1 million guarantee, with the bulk of that prize money landing in the pockets of event champion Elio Fox ($440,000).

It was Fox's second $50K SHRP Super High Roller victory, his first coming last August when he outlasted 25 entrants to win $500,000. Ironically, Ali Imsirovic finished in 4th place in both of those tournaments, bagging $130,000 last year and $120,000 in this one.

Fourth place was the cut-off to earn a payday and Ali made it but went no further when his pocket sevens failed to connect against Alex Foxen and his pocket queens. Foxen, runner-up to Ike Haxton in the Super High Roller Bowl last December for $2,160,000, followed Poker Masters champ Ali Imsirovic to the rail in short order.

Foxen was hoping that pocket queens would once again send a bunch of chips his way, but Fox's big slick matched up with an ace and a king on the board, decimating Foxen's chip stack and leaving him with just three big blinds. He eventually was forced to settle for third place prize money of $180,000.

That left Fox and Sam Soverel to battle for the title, the latter at a 4-1 chip disadvantage. Soverel couldn't shed his underdog status, his final quest for a double up with pocket fives falling short when the dealer peeled a king on the river to pair up Fox and end the tournament.
