David ‘ODB’ Baker wins WPT L.A. Poker Classic Main Event for $1.015 million

David ODB Baker was on cloud nine this morning after taking down the LA Poker Classic Main Event for a cool $1million and change, adding a WPT title to his WSOP gold bracelet from 2012.

The $1million win doubles his previous biggest cash – a $½ million 3rd spot finish at the 2015 WSOP Player’s Championship – and launches him into top Arizonan on the all-time money list with cashes of more than $5million.

The final day’s play saw the venue switched from the Commerce Casino, which had hosted the first 5 days, to Las Vegas’ HyperX Esports Arena for the televised finale, the field of 546 by this time whittled down to just six – including chip leader Darren Elias.

Elias was looking to snare a remarkable 5th WPT title to his resume, with Lithuania’s Matas Cimbolas the only other final tabler with WPT title previous.

The action came down to this trio, with Elias having to shove his short stack with a less than stellar hand, watching his suited 7 and 4 of clubs fell to Cimbolas’ raggedy ace, Elias’ 3rd spot good for $473,280.

Heads-up for the title and the lion’s share of the overall $5,169,270 prizefund, a cagey battle ensued, but with the blinds rising Cimbolas was forced to make a choice – and his middle pair shove proved to be his final act, Baker having hit a straight on the river and lifting the coveted title and $million payday.

Final results:

1 David Baker $1,015,000
2 Matas Cimbolas $646,930
3 Darren Elias $473,280
4 Jean-Claude Moussa $346,550
5 John Smith $267,400
6 Steve Yea $201,650
